Donna asks…

other than the las vegas strip, is las vegas a beautiful or nice place to live in?

my husband got a job offer there, we are living in a small town in texas, and we hate it here,we want to buy a house and have enough money to do so,but I don’t want to buy a house here,we love the night life!and don’t have any kids, is las vegas a good idea? we ‘ve only been there twice, and only on the strip, other than that ,we don’t know las vegas well at all.

Administrator answers:

You will love Vegas for the nightlife, it’s great! Buying a house? Want a tip? Use cash and offer slightly less than the asking price – you will be able to buy the house no problem. Need cash on the side? Rent out part of the house. Just do this until the economy comes back up again.

Yes, as Banananose_89117 said, unemployment rate peaks at 14%. Las Vegas has one of the worst in the nation. What does your husband do? If it’s hospitality, construction, or entertainment – definitely don’t bother. 6,000 workers in these industries were laid off, believe it or not. I had one friend working at the newly opened City Center, and he was immediately put off when the project finished. Now he’s unemployed and cannot find work. Homelessness is also becoming rampant in Vegas. Crime is rising, but is relatively in the North and East Las Vegas. Take a flight down to Las Vegas and shop for a home in Summerlin (West Las Vegas) or one in Henderson (Southern Las Vegas) or near. Those areas have relatively low crime, homelessness, and overall everything looks nice. Does your town have traffic? Because Las Vegas has tons!

The good stuff about Vegas? Take it from me. I recently moved to West Las Vegas and love it here. How cool is it to say you’re from Vegas? Moreover, how cool is it to have the Eiffel Tower and New York skyscrapers in your backyard? Yeah, too cool. Las Vegas obviously excels in nightlife and entertainment so you will love it here. Lots of places are opened 24/7. Want a steak at 4 AM? No problem! Everything is in close proximity – from parks, supermarkets, restaurants, the Strip, UNLV, the airport to name a few. There is no state tax.

Overall, be careful on spending money and keep faithful to your husband. It’s the city of Sin after all. You do the same, too. It’s a nice place to live in if you know how to make most of it =)

Sandra asks…

first time in las vegas how do you get discounts and where is decent to eat?

Im going to las vegas in 6 weeks and although im not on a tight budget would still like to take advantage of any offers for attractions and eating out as its my first time in vegas ive no idea where i would get discount coupons or vouchers or if there are any websites. Also wheres good to eat on the strip.

Administrator answers:

The problem with eating well on the strip are the long lines. So I usually go wherever there isn’t a line.

First do a Google search for phrases like LAS VEGAS BUFFET DISCOUNTS or LAS VEGAS RESTAURANT COUPONS etc.

Then check the magazines in your hotel room when you arrive. Also watch the TV commercial for your hotel (almost every hotel runs their own 24 hour commercial on one of the TV channels.) It’s about a ten minute ad that repeats over and over.

Local magazines and newspapers are also worth checking.

Some casinos also offer a free “Fun Book”, usually at the same desk where you sign up for a slot club card. Fun books usually include coupons for 2 for 1 food or drink items, a free keychain, a free double your bet on roulette, stuff like that. They hand you one if you leave Circus Circus by the south exit near Slots A Fun.

On the strip, Slots A Fun, O’Sheas and Casino Royale are the best places to look for low priced food and drink deals. Most of the strip is overpriced, like an airport. The casinos on Fremont Street downtown also have a lot of deals.

While Circus Circus has a reputation as a discount property with a bad buffet, their steakhouse has a solid reputation as one of the best on the strip.

Red Square in Mandalay Bay has a bar with a sheet of ice on top.
