Chris asks…

What is the best hotel to stay at in Las Vegas and why?

My wife and I are going to Las Vegas for our one year wedding anniversary and are trying to decided where to stay on our trip. We are trying to stay within a budget so that limits our choices (i.e. cannot stay at the Bellagio like we do in our dreams, LOL.).

Where would you recommend staying that is on/close to the Strip, affordable, and just plain great to stay at?

Administrator answers:

I like Tropicana, the Imperial Palace, Excalibur, Harrah’s.
Here is a link to read about each one.

Mandy asks…

Flight plus possibly hotel to las vegas, nevada from kansas city, mo?

My husband and I are thinking about taking a trip to Las Vegas from Kansas City, but we cannot find any flight or flight + hotel deals for less than like 900$. That is just plain ridiculous considering we are only planning on staying from 06/10/11 – 06/12/11 which is 2 nights. Any help in finding a more reasonable deal would be greatly appreciated.

Administrator answers:

There are a few factors contributing to the high prices.

1). Airfare is at an all-time high right now due to rising oil prices and the expiration of Southwest’s purchase of future oil. We pay no more than $300 for one round trip ticket to Vegas from the midwest and right now it is sitting at $500.

2). You are purchasing your air tickets quite late, almost last minute. The key is to start looking 3 months in advance and that’s when you can usually find the best deals. We usually book on Southwest and if the price of our flight goes down we can change it for free and receive a credit for the difference.

3). You are staying on a Friday and Saturday night which are the most expensive nights to stay in Vegas. Hotel rates can easily be double or even triple what they are on a weeknight.

4). Sunday is a very expensive day to fly compared to the rest of the week, so your return flight hurts you a little bit.

Having said that, here is what I have found

OUTBOUND
Southwest- 6/10- $295 for 2 people

INBOUND
Delta- 6/12- $579 for 2 people

Total= $874 for 2 flights

Budget Hotels (http://smartervegas.com/)

Excalibur- $263 + $14 per night resort fee
Flamingo- $345
Luxor- $275 + $17 per night resort fee
Imperial Palace- $245

So that is the breakdown. Purchasing separately it will cost you a minimum of $1119

Here is a package deal

http://res.southwestvacations.com/Availability/Default.aspx?itin=1

The prices start at $930 for hotel + flight.

The prices start at $540 per person

So hopefully this helps you understand why it is so expensive. It sucks, It seems like it should be half that price but gone are the days of cheap travel.

Michael asks…

Where can you find coupon booklets in Las Vegas?

Any hotel and place. I can accept answer like coupon that are hotel use only but the main thing is to get coupon offers that you can redeem anywhere in las vegas strip. NYNY staying. Any Place to get it too?

Administrator answers:

I found a guide that saved me at least $150 on my last trip. It wasn’t free but more than worth the $9 price tag from Amazon. Http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/casino-guide.php . It had tons of tips for Vegas and over 140 pages of coupons you can redeem everywhere in Las Vegas.
